Teen Challenge Scavenger Run 2008

We had some great weather for this special ride for Teen Challenge's 50th anniversary. I was disappointed by the small turnout of South Shore Riders for this month's ride and missed the company of many of our regulars. But hey... more roast pork for me right?!

Star Drive In, Lakeville MassachusettsWe left our staging area with 7 bikes, but met up with some more of our guys at the event, for a total of about 10 or so. It was good to see many old friends that came out to support this most worthy of causes.

The scavenger run was pretty cool. There was a big map, and a handout with locations for us to find. Once there, we would receive something from the owners to prove we had made the stop.

Sisson's DinerEveryone ventured out in their own small groups. Most of the South Shore folks stuck together as best we could. Our route brought us down route 18, through Lakeville, and back around to Norton. We stopped at places like Chili Head BBQ, Illusions Ink, Sisson's Diner, and the Star Drive-In.

About half way through the trip we had a wonderful water stop with ice-cold water and freshly grilled hotdogs at Calvary Pentecostal Church in E. Freetown. It was a pleasure to meet Pastor Curtis and his hard working crew of volunteers who aptly demonstrated the sacrificial love of God to a bunch of hot and thirsty bikers. After acing Pastor Curtis's Bible quiz (okay... maybe I got some help from my good friend Cappy) we were on the road again.

After winding our way around the South Shore, we ended up at the New Testament BaptistRaging Grace Church on Rte 140 in Norton for the concert and pig roast. The Teen Challenge guys had quite the spread laid out for us... creamy potato salad, spicy baked beans, crunchy corn on the cob, and the juiciest, tastiest, freshly slaughtered and slow roasted pig you could ever want!

We ate 'till we couldn't fit any more, while we listened to Raging Grace crank out one great bluesy tune after another. They have such clever lyrics, a great message, and a sound that is just right for a biker crowd. If you have never heard them, you should make a point of checking them out sometime.

BBQWe heard some great testimonies, of how Jesus changed some men's lives in dramatic ways, and about how He can change ours, too. They also gave away a whole bunch of raffle prizes like leather jackets and bike detailing. “Flathead” Tom and the Covenant M/M sponsored the ride and did a great job helping to run things.

Man... what a great day we had. If you were unfortunate enough to miss it this year, I hope you will be sure to join us next year!
